Teenage Pregnancy Statistics in United States:
Adolescents are considered women between the ages of 15-19 years. The reproductive behavior of adolescents is a topic of acknowledged importance, not only with regard to unwanted pregnancies and abortions, but also in relation to the economic and health consequences. Pregnancies at an early age are part of the cultural pattern of regions and social groups, but in big cities are unwanted and usually occur in couples who have not started a life together, or take place in situations of consensual union which usually ends with the abandonment of the woman and child, thereby shaping the social problem of the ‘single mother’. Many of these pregnancies end in abortions and in inadequate conditions, and specialized medical services are scarce and expensive because abortion is illegal in some countries.
Although rates of adolescent fertility have declined in most of the so-called developing countries over the past 20 years, yet the reproductive behavior of this group is a big concern.
